AOL is shutting down their password system for the new dual-authentication systems. That means that most Outlook programs, Thunderbird applications, and many if not all third-party email solutions are now going to need a specific password for access. Here’s how to get your Email program back up and running.
- Log into your email account at https://mail.aol.com .
- Under your username at the upper-right corner, click Options
- A pop-out menu appears. Select Account Info
- On the left side, look for Account Security and select it.
- Scroll down to Other ways to sign in and look for Generate App Password.
- a Pop-up appears and explains app passwords. Click Get Started.
- Type the name of the program you want to create a password for. It’s recommended to create a password FOR EVERY PROGRAM YOU USE. That allows for more security, despite using a less-secure method of mail.
